Christmas lighting supply for commercial property

Commercial displays differ from residential ones in scale and in surface. A shopping center can carry thousands of feet of roofline across metal canopies, parapets, tile and storefront fascia, and every building on the property is expected to match. This store sells the materials for that kind of job: long-run C9 kits, socket wire on 1,000 ft. spools, LED C9 bulbs by the 500-count case, mounting hardware for each surface, and timers for every circuit.

Long-run C9 kits

C9 installation kits are offered at 2,000 and 4,000 ft. in addition to the smaller sizes, at 12 in. or 15 in. spacing. 15 in. spacing is the common choice on commercial buildings viewed from a parking lot or road. It uses about 20% fewer bulbs and clips than 12 in. over the same footage and still reads as a continuous line. The pricing table lists every kit size with its cost per foot.

Socket wire for custom runs

Commercial edges are rarely uniform. A 1,000 ft. SPT-2 socket wire spool lets each edge be cut to its exact length, and SPT-2's heavier jacket holds up to long runs and repeated seasons. Magnetic socket spools suit metal canopies, and replacement sockets keep a run in service when one socket is damaged.

Mounting by surface

Most commercial buildings need more than one clip type. Magnet clips hold to steel canopies, awnings and metal roof edges without drilling. Tile and extended fascia clips handle tile roofs and deep fascia boards. Ridge clips run along peaks and standing-seam ridges. All-in-one clips and O-clips cover gutters and shingle sections on clubhouses and leasing offices. Survey each surface before ordering so the clip count is split correctly.

Power and scheduling

Large properties draw from many outdoor outlets on separate panels. Every outdoor outlet used should be GFCI-protected, and runs should be grouped so no single circuit is overloaded. LED C9 bulbs draw far less than incandescent, so more footage fits on a circuit. Photocell timers in 4-packs put every circuit on the same dusk start and the same set number of hours, so all buildings light and go dark together.

Trees and grounds

Parking lot trees, entrance trees and planters are lit with LED mini light strands, sold singly or in 24-strand cases so the whole property uses one color from the same order. C9 bulbs on light stakes outline walkways and bed edges.

Scoping a commercial display

A commercial lighting scope answers four questions before any material is ordered: which edges get lit, what each edge is made of, how far each edge is from an outlet, and how the whole property will be switched on and off. Getting those answers on one sheet is what lets a retail center, office park or campus be ordered in a single pass.

Step 1: Decide which elevations are lit

Most commercial properties don't light every edge. Start with the elevations seen from the main road and the parking field: the front fascia, the end caps, entry canopies and any tower or parapet feature. Rear service elevations are usually left dark. Mark each lit edge on a site plan or an aerial photo and give it an ID, such as "Bldg A front fascia" or "Bldg C canopy".

Step 2: Measure and classify each edge

Record each edge's length and its surface. Commercial buildings mix surfaces more than homes do:

  • Metal canopies, awnings and coping: magnet clips ($0.772 each in 2,000-count cases) or magnetic socket spools. Check for aluminum, which magnets won't hold.
  • Tile roofs and deep fascia: tile and extended fascia clips.
  • Peaks and ridges: ridge clips.
  • Gutters and shingle sections on clubhouses, leasing offices and pad sites: O-clips or all-in-one clips.

Note the height of each edge too. Edges above ladder reach need lift access, which affects how runs are planned: fewer, longer runs mean fewer connections to make in the air.

Step 3: Choose spacing by viewing distance

Edges viewed from a road or across a parking field read as a continuous line at 15 in. spacing, which uses about 20% fewer bulbs and clips than 12 in. Entry canopies and storefronts viewed from the sidewalk look fuller at 12 in. Set spacing per edge type and apply it to every building so the property matches.

Step 4: Map power

For every edge, note the nearest exterior outlet, whether it's GFCI-protected, and which panel it's on. Edges with no nearby outlet need lamp cord run from the closest one, finished with slide-on plugs. Group edges into circuits so no circuit is overloaded; LED C9 bulbs draw far less than incandescent, so long runs share a circuit more easily. Plan one photocell timer per circuit; in 4-packs they're $10.75 each, all set to the same hours.

Step 5: Convert the scope to an order

Total the footage by spacing. Order either kits sized to the totals or socket wire spools for custom-cut runs, with bulbs at one per socket ($0.638 each in 500-count cases), clips split by surface, and plugs at one male per run plus one female per run that feeds another.

Long-run C9 kits at 15 in. spacing, priced from the current catalog:

  • 2,000 ft.: $3,761.96, $1.88 per foot, about 1,600 bulbs
  • 4,000 ft.: $8,045.48, $2.01 per foot, about 3,200 bulbs

Kits include socket wire, LED C9 bulbs, plugs and clips. On a building with metal or tile edges, add the matching clips separately for those runs.

Filled in, a sheet like this turns directly into quantities, and it becomes the property's record for matching additions and re-lamps in later seasons: color temperature, bulb style and spacing are all on one page.

Questions

Which spacing do commercial buildings use?

15 in. spacing is common on commercial rooflines viewed from a parking lot or road; it uses about 20% fewer bulbs and clips per foot. 12 in. spacing suits entrances, storefront canopies and anything viewed from a sidewalk.

How do we mount lights on a metal canopy or awning?

Magnet clips hold C9 sockets to steel surfaces without drilling. Magnetic socket spools are another option for long metal edges. Aluminum is not magnetic, so aluminum gutters and trim take O-clips or all-in-one clips instead.

Can one order cover several buildings?

Yes. Ordering the whole property at once keeps every building on the same bulb color temperature, style and spacing. The order ships free with free shipping on $500+ and goes out the same day.

What size kit covers a retail strip?

Measure every lit edge: front fascia, sides that face the road, canopy edges and any parapet steps. Add the totals and choose the kit at or above that footage, or combine kits. For irregular edges, a 1,000 ft. socket wire spool lets each run be cut to length.

How many photocell timers does a property need?

One per circuit that powers lights. Each timer switches its circuit on at dusk and off after the hours set on the dial, so setting every timer to the same hours keeps the property on one schedule.

Should I choose 12 in. or 15 in. spacing?

12 in. spacing gives a tighter, brighter line and is common on single-story homes and anything viewed up close. 15 in. spacing uses about 20% fewer bulbs for the same footage and is common on larger homes and commercial rooflines viewed from a distance.

When will my order ship?

Every order ships the same day it's placed, whatever time you order. There's no cutoff.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is free on all orders to the contiguous United States, with no order minimum.

Which clip do I need?

All-in-one clips fit shingles and gutters. Ridge clips mount along roof peaks. Tile and extended fascia clips are for tile roofs and deep fascia boards. Magnet clips hold to metal surfaces, and light stakes place C9 or C7 bulbs along walkways and beds.

What are sun warm, warm, pure and cool white?

They describe color temperature. Sun warm white (about 2600–2800K) is the most amber, closest to incandescent. Warm white (about 2800–3200K) is the traditional soft white. Pure white (about 4000–4200K) is neutral, and cool white (5900K and up) has a blue tint.

Can I return items I don't use?

Yes. Unused, uninstalled product in its original, intact packaging can be returned within 30 days of delivery. Request the return before shipping anything back.
